How automatic sensor faucet works? Automatic sensor faucets are created by combining four key components:  infrared sensor and control electronics, solenoid valve, power source and faucet body. Here is an overview break down of these four components showing how automatic sensor faucet works.

#1: Infrared sensor and control electronics

Infrared sensor and control electronics is to sense the presence of objects in front of the faucet (usually, automatic basin faucets employ presence sensors but not motion sensors while automatic kitchen faucets is the opposite) and order the solenoid valve to initiate water flow. Then when the object is no longer present, the sensor and control electronics will order the solenoid valve to terminate water flow.

All sensor electronic components will be placed into a plastic sensor housing. Rajeyn has over 50 different designs of the sensor housings for selection. They are usually used for sensor faucets, touch-free flush valves and soap dispensers.

#2: Solenoid valve

Solenoid valve operates diaphragm valve which is entrusted with the task of physically starting and stopping water flow. This kind of valve is usually named “pulse valve” and worked with low voltage such as DC3V and DV6V. However, a small number of manufacturers use geared motors to achieve valve opening and closing and usually worked with higher voltage such as DC12V.

#3: Power source

Power source are generally means batteries (usually alkaline or lithium batteries) or AC transformer/adapter. Both sensor and solenoid valve require power source, this readily available component is crucial to insure faucet operation. Rajeyn products are powered by DC3V (2pcs AAA alkaline batteries or 1pc lithium battery), DC6V(4pcs AA alkaline batteries) and AC110V-220V based on different countries or areas. Automatic faucets using AC transformer as power source are generally inexpensive to produce and are priced accordingly in the marketplace. Rajeyn power adapter includes plugs for markets such EU, UK, USA.

#4: Faucet body/spout

Faucet body/spout is for water delivery. Some automatic faucet spout/aerator is directly connected to the water hose, without contact with faucet body, for example, Rajeyn faucet model RJY-11-B107, 108, 109, 110 models are this type (These models sensor is on the spout aerator). While the others are with water directly contacting faucet body, such as RJY-11-B101 model (This model sensor is on the faucet body).
